Hi,

Even if you’ve only been running an online business for a short
time you will very quickly have realized that it involves a lot
of work. When you’re starting out that usually means you are
doing all of it and no matter how organized you are, if you’re
doing the job properly it isn’t long before you become swamped.

As a niche marketer you first have to identify your niche. Then
comes the keyword research to identify what people are searching
for in that niche. Then you need to get content in the form of
articles for posts and pages written based on your keywords.
Having done all of that you now have to create your website,
which these days usually means using WordPress. You need to
select a good SEO friendly theme and add all of the necessary
plugins to help with optimization of your site.

Once you have your site built with this initial content, the real
hard work starts – marketing your site. You need to submit it to
the search engines and directories, build backlinks including
links from article directories (which you need more articles for)
not to mention that you need to continue to add more content to
your site to target more keywords and grow the authority of your
site … the list just goes on.

Looking at all of that, and I haven’t included everything there,
it isn’t surprising that PLR is as popular as it is. Private
label content has been around for a long time now with new PLR
services cropping up all the time. In addition to PLR articles we
are also seeing a growing number of offers for ‘done-for-you’
sites or turnkey sites as they are often called.

Both of these have the potential to save you a lot of time but
are they really worth it? This is a question that I often get
asked and you regularly see people asking the same thing on
forums.

On the face of it would seem to be obvious, after all if you
don’t have to spend time writing content it has to save your time
doing it yourself. Better yet, if you can get a site already
created for you, with a nice theme, lots of content, everything
already done for you so all you have to do is upload it to your
hosting and you’re done that has to be the ideal solution surely?

If you had asked me those questions a year or so ago I would have
said yes, absolutely, no question about it. But things have
changed a lot since then, especially more recently with all of
the Google updates.

So why do I say that this is now a problem? As long as what
you’re getting is good quality isn’t that acceptable? The problem
isn’t with the quality, the issue is that these articles and
turnkey sites aren’t unique. There are normally several sets of
the same thing for sale. Often you see that only 100 copies of
this PLR will be sold and more often there is no limit mentioned.
That means that possibly hundreds of people are going to be
putting up the exact same website, or exact same article content.

That’s why these services are priced so cheaply, they are selling
lots of copies of it. Google is now clamping down very heavily on
this type of duplicate content so although you may have a very
nice site, if Google identify that your site is the same as one
they’ve already listed, they will not list yours. It’s difficult
to know exactly what Google are looking for a lot of the time but
they definitely seem to be against duplicate sites.

So does that mean that PLR is no use to us? In my view, no it
doesn’t. I still think that PLR can be very useful depending on
how you use it. There are several good article spinning tools
available now, I use Dupliterminator, that you can use to create
unique articles out of your PLR ones.

When it comes to your done-for-you sites it’s a bit different.
Yes, you can spin all of the content but you also need to get
your own graphics and images created. This is obviously a lot
more work but if you’re not good at creating sites yourself it
will still be worth the effort.

You can also make your turnkey sites unique by adding other PLR
content to them to make them more authoritative, which Google is
looking for now. My recommendation is that you start with your
turnkey site, make the content unique by spinning it, add some
new graphics and additional PLR content and you should be good to
go.

If you’re good at writing you can get hold of several pieces of
PLR content on your niche subject and write your own content
based on them but in your own words. I’ve written complete ebooks
like this and done very well with them.

The ideal solution is to get your sites created by outsource
workers and not have to worry about duplicate content but when
you’re just starting out and having to do everything yourself the
PLR route is a cheaper way to go. Something else to bear in mind
is that on average only around 5% of people who buy anything
actually do anything with it so that reduces the competition
dramatically.

As we near the end of 2011, spend some time looking back over the
last year and analyze where you spent the bulk of your time. Was
this time you spent profitable or could it have been better spent
doing something else. Did you spend the bulk of your time on
business building activities or learning techniques, trying the
latest hot solution or just checking email?

This is a useful exercise and will point you in the right
direction for next year.
