Hi,

I’d like to welcome you today to the new-look ‘Action Today’.
This issue marks a very big turning point in my career online
that I’d like to share with you. It’s a big turning point because
I have a confession to make that some of you may relate to that
has resulted in me taking the direction that I am now going to
take. You see I’ve been online for quite a long time now and over
that time I’ve had periods that were quite successful and periods
that weren’t successful at all.

If I analyze it the times when I wasn’t successful have been when
I’ve been distracted, when I’ve allowed something else to take my
attention and as a result have neglected what I should have been
doing online. I say online because with me the distractions have
normally come from something I’ve got involved with offline.

There was one notable occasion when I had grown my list to over
5000 which all but disappeared in the course of a year because I
didn’t keep in regular contact with them. You may be wondering by
now what’s caused me to suddenly consider that I’m at a turning
point and need to make some changes.

Well, it’s my good friend Martin Avis’s fault. You see a few
months back I re-subscribed to his newsletter and started to
attend his very excellent London lunch networking meetings.
Chatting with Martin at the recent London lunch I discovered that
Martin earns a six figure income (in UK pounds, that is) from his
newsletter that he has been sending out to his list for the past
10+ years.

That’s right, a very comfortable six figure income almost
entirely from his newsletter. That really gave me a wake-up call
because I started online at about the same time as Martin and in
the beginning I sent out a newsletter like his and the one you
are reading now. The only difference is that he has continued to
send out his newsletter and build his list and I haven’t. There’s
a lesson for us all there which is that focus and consistency
over a relatively short amount of time can and will produce
amazing results.

Martin was making a good living after only a few months so we’re
not talking ten years to become financially independent.

So that’s why it is a big turning point for me and why I’ve gone
back to my original format for my newsletter.

Two years ago I decided to take the opportunity to create a
not-for-profit organization to train and qualify technical
support staff in schools. Technical support in the education
sector, especially in the smaller schools is generally very
disorganized. Any support they do tends to be reactive and
consequently wastes time and resources, both of which cost money.
I was providing consultancy services at the time and when I came
across this opportunity, because I’m passionate about techie
stuff I decided to go ahead and set the company up.

This was the last example of where I became distracted from my
online goal. Have you ever seen something that caught your
imagination and caused you to go off in a different direction to
where you really should be going? It’s very easy to do isn’t it?
Especially online these days with all of the ‘latest greatest
must have to be successful’ products being pushed into our inbox.

And while I’m still passionate about revolutionizing technical
support in schools, I need to be letting that take a back seat
and focus on my online business. Sometimes we need to make
difficult decisions in life and this is one of them for me.

The reason being that while I’ve been concentrating on my
charitable aims, my online income has plummeted and that’s not
good. The first thing I’m going to do is review al of my
affiliate sites and get them active and generating income. A
while ago I purchased Unstoppable Affiliate and have been working
through that. I’ll be covering where I am with that and the
lessons I’m learning as I work through it in this newsletter so
you can benefit as I go along too.

On a personal front, have any of you come across Labyrinthitis? I
hadn’t until about 6 weeks ago when I tried to sit up in bed one
morning and found that my world was suddenly spinning around all
over the place and I couldn’t stand up. Apparently, it is caused
by a viral infection of the inner ear which can be brought on by
any number of things, a tooth infection, a cold, even driving
along with the window down.

All I know is that it arrives very suddenly and can take weeks to
go. As I said I’ve had it for about 6 weeks already and it is
getting better. I’m fine during the day now but still get giddy
when I lie down and sit up. Hopefully, it will continue to
improve and soon be gone. If any of you have any miracle cures,
let me know.

Because we all have limited time that we can devote to our
business, creating a plan based on what time we have will help us
achieve more with the time we have. Without a plan we have to
waste time deciding what to do each time we get some ‘working on
our business’ time. Jimmy D Brown has an excellent program where
he describes partitioning our time so that we build in elements
of offers, list & traffic. Try listing all of the things you need
to get done in your business and categorize them into those
categories. Then whenever you get some time to work on your
business include some time working on creating offers, some time
on list building activities and some time on traffic generation.

That way you business will grow on all fronts. As your list
grows, you’ll have offers to send to them and you’ll be working
on generating traffic to your squeeze page to pull potential
subscribers into your funnel.
